A word most people have heard, but few can actually break down.
Sri Vidya is a name most people in this space have heard, but few stop to actually take apart. It comes from an older word, Strivdya, describing the worship of nature, and it can be broken into simple pieces.
Sattva is knowing, plain awareness. Tamas is the sense of I and mine, the ideas that tie you down to a fixed identity. Rajas is the pull to break out of that tie. And desire is the part of you that keeps swinging between wanting to be bound and wanting to be free, never quite settling on either.
When the tamas part, the bondage part, is dropped out, what is left is Sri: wealth, and the pleasure of creation itself, without the weight of clinging to it.
So Sri Vidya, at its root, is about honoring life and desire without needing to own or control what you desire. You still enjoy what comes. You just stop gripping it so hard that it owns you instead.
You do not need to memorize the etymology to walk this path. But knowing what the word actually points to helps explain why this tradition takes desire seriously instead of treating it as something to be ashamed of or crushed.
